CHILE: Corruption shakes PPD

The Partido por la Democracia (PPD), the largest party in the ruling Concertación, is struggling to deal with charges of corruption that are damaging the party's credibility. The PPD expelled one of its founding members, Jorge Schaulsohn, a former president of the chamber of deputies, on 26 December, for outspoken comments about corruption. Shortly after Schaulsohn made his remarks on 10 December, the opposition appealed to the judiciary to investigate corruption in the government.
